John Wesley Leavy, Sr. (affectionately known as John Wayne) was born December 23, 1935 to the late Lindsay and Mary
Leavy. He departed this life July 7, 2022.

He retired from the City Winston-Salem Sanitation Department in 1999 after 40 years of service. He loved sports and played
baseball for the East Winston Braves.

John Wayne loved working in his yard, watching westerns, sports and crime stories on television. He cooked dinner EVERY
Sunday and enjoyed sharing it with his family. He was a quiet, gentle and kind man who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his two brothers Clotel and Harold Leavy and one sister Elaine Love.

He is survived by his son John Leavy, Jr. (Beverlvl,his daughter Arenetta Hicks (Robert, Sr.) Three grandsons, Steve Moore,
Robert Hicks Jr., John Hicks, one granddaughter Torey Hicks, two great-grandsons Steven and Tyquarian Moore as well as
nieces and nephews who will forever cherish loving memories
of him.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 pm Thursday July 14,2022 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am-12:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Walkertown, NC.
