Mr. John Dossie Norwood Jr., aka"Pete" was born August 19, 1956 to Ruby Lyons Norwood and the late  John Dossie Norwood Sr. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools and was a 1974 graduate of North Forsyth High School.  Mr. Norwood served his country proudly in the United States Navy and traveled the world extensively.

He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with over 36 years of service. John loved traveling and fishing. He loved his family dearly and was a helper to all.

In addition to his father preceding him in death, he was preceded in death  by sisters, Linda Norwood, Shirley Norwood and Dorothy Norwood, MD; niece, Aisha Nickerson and nephew, Derek Worthy.

He departed this life Friday January 5, 2024 at his home.

He leaves cherished memories to his mother, Ruby L. Norwood; sisters, Dianne Norwood and Cynthia Norwood Skinner; nieces, Camilla(Barry) Washington and Mia Elliott; nephews,  Rahim(Addea) Skinner, Albert R. Nickerson and Justin Skinner; great nephews, Eric Hairston, Rodney(Katlyn) Williams, Joseph Elliott, John Keith Nickerson, and Micah Skinner; great nieces, Brie McCullough, Ashyia Nickerson, Ayah Skinner, and Juliette Joy Williams; great great nephews, Khylan Hairston; a devoted brother-in-law Albert (Dorothy Norwood MD-deceased) Nickerson; and a host of other relatives and  dear friends including his companion, Claudette Goodwin .

Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Friday January 19, 2024 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am-12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
