Ms. Karen Lisa Crawford , aka "Smurf" was born February 27, 1955 in Baltimore Maryland to the late James E. Wardell and Elizabeth Crawford Furches.

She was educated in the Winston Salem Forsyth County public schools and  employed by R J Reynolds Tobacco Co.  Ms. Crawford was a veteran of the United States Navy.

She found peace in the simple joys—listening to the rain, spending time with her family, and caring for her beloved dog, Poochie. Karen was proud that her hard work paid off. She earned everything she had, and she kept it all in beautiful order.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Ann Smith.

Ms. Crawford departed this life Sunday April 13, 2025 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.

She leaves cherished memories to her daughter, Sherrie Crawford; grandchildren, Shanise Crawford , Richard Rowell-Crawford , Simone Crawford  and Alisa Crawford; siblings  Shanita R. Thompson, Tony Furches, Wendell B. Smith Sr., William Furches Jr., Bryant Furches, Richard Furches and Troy Jones;  a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, including a special devoted cousin, Broderick Crawford "Bosie" of   Baltimore , Maryland, other relatives and friends.

A service in her memory will be held Friday April 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home.

Karen Lisa Crawford's   life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and deep love. She built a beautiful legacy and left behind a strong foundation of family, faith, and fortitude. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
