Obituary

Ms. Laura Ann Washington was born March 15, 1952 in Florence, SC to the late William J. and Biner K. Fortune and was educated in the New York City public schools. A resident of North Carolina for much of life, she had various employment stints, having worked for WFU/Baptist Medical Center, Thomasville Furniture, MLK, Jr. Laundromat, and for the Salvation Army.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Washington was preceded in death by a sister, Nettie Mae Kennedy; and a daughter, Tasha M. Washington.

Ms. Washington transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019 at High Point Medical Center following a period of illness.

Survivors include three daughters, Cieanna Hairston (Jerry, Jr.) of Reidsville, NC, Dianna Jones (devoted son-in-law, Leander), and Joella Washington, all of Winston Salem, NC; one son, Siris Washington (Maria) of Killeen, TX; 11 grandchildren, Timothy, Kiara, Arryelle, Brittany, Leander, Jr., Timiyah, Jovant, Anthony, Carnella, Simone, and Siris, III; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris J. Beasley-Kilcrease of Greensboro, NC and Catherine Adesanya (Olawale)of Winston Salem, NC; one brother, John W. Kennedy of Chesapeake, VA; a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends 11am Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 in the Hooper Funeral Home chapel with funeral services following at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
