Howard, Sr.

Lee Samuel Howard, Sr. was born in Florence, SC to the late Mary Jane Williams Howard and Henry Howard on April 29, 1934. He was one of 14 children. He attended the Florence County Schools and was a member of Wesley A.M.E. Church. He married Annie Melia Davis and to this union were 7 children. Lee and Annie relocated to Winston-Salem in 1959. He resided in Winston-Salem until his death.
Lee worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for over 30 years as a mechanic, at Downtown Garage as a mechanic and at Sears Service Center as a mechanic. He was a member of the Road-Runners Motorcycle Club and participated in many local parades, and was an avid financial supporter of Christ Rescue Temple Apostolic Church. Lee was known for his hearty laughter and big smile.
Lee, Sr. departed this life on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters: Willette H. Howard and Christine Howard; grandson: Jarret Howard, brothers: Henry Howard, Jr., Sylvester Howard, Buster Howard, Michael Howard, and Roosevelt Howard; sisters: Eula Alexander, Lucille King, Marie Brunson Jones, Pearline Cato, Lois Parson, Mary Ann Pickens, and Annie Belle Howard.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 66 years, Mother Annie Davis Howard of the home, sons: Ralph (Beverly) Howard of Indianapolis, IN, , Lee, Jr. (Almeader) Howard of Charlotte, NC, Sylvester (Teresa) Howard of Welcome, NC and Fernando Howard of Winston-Salem, NC; daughters: Henrietta Howard of Charlotte, NC and Gloria (Orvice) Robinson of Charlotte, NC; 16 grand-children, 18 great-grand children, son-in law: Thornton Howard, Charlotte, NC; brother: Andrew Howard of Marlton, NJ; brothers-in-law: Bishop Willie Davis, Jr., of Winston-Salem, NC and Woodrow Davis (Gail) of Winston-Salem, NC; sister in laws: Melody Davis and Annie Belle Cooper of Oakdale, Connecticut and Olivia King of Stratford, Connecticut and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear neighbors, Melvin and Chris Jones.
His remains will lie in repose Monday, January 18, 2021 in Hooper Funeral Home from 12pm-6pm. Services: private. www.hooperfuneralhome.net .
