Obituary

Ms. Lena Belle Witherspoon, 89, slipped away from this earthly realm into blissful eternal rest on Tuesday October 11, 2022 at Trellis Supportive Care.

Lena was born on April 19, 1933 to Lula C. Moore and Roland James Ingram in Lamar, SC. After moving to Winston-Salem, Lena attended Atkins High School. She was married to the love of her life Willie Thomas Witherspoon for 68 years until his death.

Lena worked at the Pepper Building as an elevator operator and also at Thomasville Furniture Company. The last job she secured was the job she always wanted at R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where she retired after 14 years.

Len loved family and cooking. She loved baking  pound, pineapple and chocolate cakes. Her signature white potato pie was the best.

Spiritually, she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was a member of the usher board. She also cooked at the church and loved serving meals along with her aunt Rosa Thomas.

In addition to her husband who preceded her in death, four children, Sandra Banner, Scollett Witherspoon, Willie T. Witherspoon, Jr. and Diane Harrison; her brother, Roland Ingram; her sister, Elease Ingram.

Lena is survived by her son Jerry Witherspoon(Samithea) of the city; grandson, Melvin Witherspoon of the home, granddaughters Keisha Wilson of Houston, TX and Kenjetta Driver of the city; grandsons, Nicholas and Zachery Harrison of Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Special thanks to a special friend Evelyn Penn, nephew, Anthony Thomas and niece Veronica Ronnie Conner.
