Left to cherish his memory includes one brother; Leonard (Magalene) of the city, three sisters; Mary Moore of the city, Diane Stowe (Bishop Johny R. Stowe) of the city, Dona Stanback of Moncks Corner, S. C. Reverend Oglesby also leaves behind a host of god-children, and countless friends who have been inspired by his loyalty and infected with his laughter and happiness.
We are thankful for all the time that God lent him to us. He lived a full life of love and happiness. We take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering. Reverend Leon was known as a kind, generous, intelligent man who inspired people with his faith and hope in God.
Throughout his thirty (30) years of marriage, he kept God in the forefront. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was serious about his work for the Lord, but he was also known for his sense of humor and amiable personality. He enjoyed telling Bible stories and he was a man of many interests, who aspired to be both knowledgeable and proficient in whatever he was involved with. We all thank God for this remarkable man that we loved so very much. Even when he was gravely ill, he kept on doing whatever he could for the Kingdom of God. He loved his work and the people that he reached with great intensity.
Those who knew Reverend Oglesby will tell you that he lived fully by Matthew 28:19-20: "King James Version. ''And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. ''Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.".
His extensive academic training in Greek, Hebrew, theology, history, and textual criticism equipped him for a life dedicated to studying, instructing, exhorting, and comforting with God's truth. "The Word of God is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a critic of the thoughts and intents of the heart." His tireless devotion to Bible teaching and enduring love for his congregation provided those who studied under his ministry the opportunity to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
The family will receive friends 1pm Monday, October 25, 2021 at Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2pm.
