On July 23, 1930 in Rockford, NC, Maggie Bell Mathews became the fourth child born to Dewitt & Grace Matthews. She was educated in  the public school system, attending Carver High School. Maggie was baptized into the Adventist faith over 50 years ago at Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church. She served as a Deaconness, was on the Ladies Usher board, Ladies choir and the hospitality floral committee. She joined Ethan Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church in Dayton, Ohio on October 6, 2007. There she served with the hospitality and gardens committees, as well as serving at the men and women shelter. God gifted her with hands that could cook, clean and make the most beautiful floral arrangements. Maggie Bell known to may as Ms. Martin worked many years as a florist at Carpenter's Flower Shop & Bud Smith's Florist. She retired from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system after several years of hard work and dedication.

Maggie departed this  life Monday June 27, 2022 at the Piney Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, siblings, Inez Matthews, James Matthews, Dewitt Matthews Jr., John Matthews and Donald Matthews, and her great granddaughter, Janet Capers,

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Sandra Rice(Bernard Flynt Sr.) Johnnie Brown, Janice Smith(Charles), Curtis Lowery, and Nathel Johnson; her grandchildren Debbie Dethrow (Floyd), Donald Brown(Shelley) John Rice, Antuane Thomas, Tyrone Caesar, Mark Brown(Shauntae), Dana Ross(Steven) Kelvis Johnson(Esharan) Kaleb Johnson, Kanalya Johnson; her niece Carolyn Wilson; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren; cousins;  other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday July 5, 2022 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:30am-11:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home
