Obituary

Margaret Love Brandon, a beloved wife, mother and sister, cousin, an esteemed educator, devoted church member, and a valued friend, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on September 22, 1944, in Concord, North Carolina, Margaret's intelligence and zeal for knowledge were evident early on, and a teacher in the community admitted her to first grade at 4 years old. She graduated from Logan High School in 1961 and proceeded to earn her Biology degree from Johnson C. Smith University in 1965, where she also met the love of her life, James Willie Brandon, Sr. Their union after college blossomed into a beautiful family with two children, Rochelle Monique Brandon and James 'Jimmy' Brandon, Jr.

Margaret and James Sr. made their home in Winston-Salem, where they lived for 54 years. Margaret dedicated over 30 years to Carver High School, imparting wisdom and passion for biology, anatomy, and earth science. She furthered her education with a Master's Degree in Science Education at A&T University. Her commitment to education was paralleled by her devout faith and service at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Margaret's involvement spanned across numerous committees and roles, including participation in three choirs, the Active Adults, starting a church based Girl Scout Troop, the Senior Missionaries, the Church Decorations Committee, and serving as a Deaconess among many others. She demonstrated her faith through service to the church.

Margaret's love for her family was profound. She cherished her husband, children, daughter-in-law, Iris, and grandchild, Zora Wynn Brandon, embodying grace, love, and compassion. She was a pillar of strength and kindness in her community, always ready to offer support and wisdom. Her concern, care, and warmth were contagious, enriching the lives of everyone she touched. She is preceded in death by her parents, Othella Spears Love and Felmington Haywood Love; and her brother, Felmington Haywood Love, Jr.

Her legacy lives on through her husband, James Willie; her children, Rochelle and Jimmy; and her daughter-in-law, Iris; her grandchild, Zora; her sister, Vivian Love Turner (William H. Turner); and a host of extended family and friends who were profoundly impacted by her life.

Margaret Love Brandon's remarkable journey was marked by dedication, love, and service. Her contributions to her family, church, and community have left an indelible mark. As we celebrate her life, we also find comfort in the memories and lessons she has left behind. Margaret will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her to live with kindness, compassion, and faith.

Margaret's home going celebration will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The family hour will be at 12:00 PM and the service will begin at 1:00 PM at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 450 Metropolitan Drive; Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park.
