Obituary

Margaret Julia Drummond, aka (Mickey), Was born the second child and the oldest daughter of seven children in Spartanburg, SC. on January 12, 1935, to the late William Thomas Drummond and Jumell Rookard Drummond. She peacefully passed away with her loving family by her side on April 4, 2023. She graduated from Anderson High School in Winston Salem, NC, and retired from Northwest Early Childhood Development Inc.

She was preceded in death by her sister Edna Gertrude Drummond, her brothers William Terry, James Edward, Curtis, and Robert Drummond, and her sons Quinton Tyrone and Calvin Maurice Drummond.

Mickey was known for her fashion sense and style from a young age. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, modeling, and reading. In addition to her love of poetry of which several she authored have been published.

Ms. Mickey was sharply dressed when she stepped out the house. While working for E.S.R she would advocate for those without a voice in the city. She was amongst the first group of women to break the gender code of the now Winston- Salem Journal (Sentinel). An activist in her community for equality, attempting to make it a better place for all. She was more than just our mother; she was theirs also.

Throughout her travels in and out of the country she would make friends because she never met a stranger for long. No matter what walk of life a person might be on. She possessed the ability to meet people on their level and convey that they mattered. Now, sometimes you got more of the truth than you wanted.

She leaves to mourn her sons, Spencer M. Drummond, Sterling K. (Darlette) Drummond, and Micah S. Drummond; one daughter, Tilda V. Shannon of Winston Salem, NC; one sister Odessa Gaither; grandchildren, Dayna Graham, Ebony Drummond, Quinton (Stephanie) Drummond Jr., Calvin M. Drummond Jr., Sharese R. Drummond, Sherrie (Anthony) Justiniano. Spencer Jr., Jonathan (Shannon) Drummond, Eugene Drummond, Daniel Roebuck, Thessalonia Shannon, Steven L. Reeves, and Juan P. (Destiny) Thompson, II; her long-time dedicated friend Deloris Wilson; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a community of friends and adopted family.
