Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth McFarlin Lowrance completed her journey on earth peacefully and quietly at her residence on Thursday, November
12, 2020 after an extended period of illness.

Although originally from Winston Salem, since her illness onset four years ago, Margaret lived in Garner, N.C. with her beloved Grandson
Jeffery (Krystal) who took her into their home where she was loved, and passionately cared for. She was promised years ago that she
would not spend her latter years in a nursing home; and now - that promise made - is a debt that has been honorably paid.

She is a 1951 graduate of Atkins High School. After working for several years she quit her job and enrolled at Winston Salem
Teachers College (now WSSU) where she graduated with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education.

Margaret spent the first two years of her teaching career in Martinsville, VA. She then returned to Winston-Salem and spent the
next 25 years with the Winston Salem Forsyth County School System before retiring. She was admired and loved by the students, parents
and faculty while teaching at North Elementary School and Speas Elementary School. Although working daily and caring for her own
children during this time, she didn't stop there. She continued pursuing her education at A& T State University and Appalachian State
University earning her Masters' Degree in Education and Counseling.

Her favorite hobbies were reading, sewing and gardening. Her house was a library full of all kinds of books and magazines. She was
exceptionally good at the sewing machine and would not hesitate to make or alter an item of clothing if she wanted something special and couldn't find exactly what she wanted in a store. She also took pride in growing her own fresh vegetables in her backyard garden but she was especially proud of her many, many, many Aloe Vera Plants. She always touted these plants as having so many uses. She wouldn't hesitate to give you a plant if you asked for one or if she even thought you had something Aloe could treat such as an itch from Poison Ivy or a Blister from a burn (just ask her kids, grandkids or her many family members).

Loved by all, Margaret was the fourth of 8 children and loved to say that she could celebrate her birthday on two days because she was born exactly at 12:00 midnight (May 2nd - 3rd).  She was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon and Helen McFarlin; two brothers, William (Lil Man) and James (J B) McFarlin; one sister Mildred Dobson; and her former spouse, William Howard Lowrance.

She leaves to mourn her memories, three sisters; Mae Francis McRae of Walkertown, N.C.; Lillian Runetta Patterson of Winston Salem, N.C.; and Floretta Dixon Gregory of Sacramento, CA; one brother; Preston (Priscilla) McFarlin of Winston Salem, N.C; one daughter; Sandra (Donald) Perry of Winston Salem, N.C.; and one son, Dennis (Pamela) Lowrance of Greensboro, N.C; three grandsons; Jeffery (Krystal) Perry of Garner, N.C.; Terrance Perry of Winston Salem, N.C. and Dennis Lowrance Jr. of Greensboro, N.C; two granddaughters; Jeanna (Darryl) Easterwood and Denisha Lowrance of Winston Salem, N.C; twelve great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A public viewing will be held Friday November 20, 2020 from 12:00pm-6:00pm at Hooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be held at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC.
