Ms.  Margrett Catherine Hanes was born July 4, 1925 to the late Oliver and Evelyn Jeffreys Hanes, Sr. She was a life long resident of this city where she attended the public schools, graduating from W-S Teachers College, and earning a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. Her love of children inspired her to be a teacher, retiring after 32 years of service.

She was a member of Saints Home United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, and assisted with the children's choir.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings, Frank Jr., Eloise, Edward, Wesley, Andrew and Eugene Hanes; sister- in-law, Linda Hanes; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ms. Hanes departed this life Sunday June 11, 2023.

Cherishing her memory are a loving niece, Sandra Hampton and husband Willie; nephew, Joseph Pennington, his son, daughter, and grandson, Joseph, Aubrian, and Kai; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held 12 noon Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Saints. Home United Methodist Church, 1390 Thurmond St. Winston-Salem, NC 27105. The family desires that donations be forwarded to the church in lieu of flowers.
