Obituary

Martin Webster Coleman aka "Marty", 74, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina gained his wings on  Friday March 17, 2023.

In his early years, Martin graduated from Long Island Public School System and then enlisted in the Army. He served two terms , where he was a trained helicopter gunman. For his services, he received a Purple Heart Honor. Once he was discharged, Martin, called "Marty," by his family and friends turned his passion for cooking into a career. Marty became head dietician and chef at Plymouth Hospital in Plymouth, North Carolina. Which he later opened his own diner where he served meals to the local prison.

Marty was a devoted Mason. Marty was made a Mason at the Shiloh Lodge #319 in Columbia, North Carolina. Mr. Coleman served the following roles while serving as a member of the Masons: Past Master of Golden Trowel Lodge #319 in Belhaven, North Carolina; former Companion of M.D. Towe #74 Holy Arches Masons in Washington, North Carolina; former Illustrious Companion of God Crown #5 Royal and Select Masters in Washington, North Carolina; former Sir Knight of King Solomon Commandery #14 in Washington, North Carolina; and former member of the Southern Beauty Chapter #49 Order of the Eastern Star in Belhaven, North Carolina.

Preceded before him in death was his loving parents Geneva and Harry Coleman, his big brother, Ronald Porter, and bonus brother Allen Parrish.

Martin leaves behind his loving wife, Wilma Coleman of Walkertown, North Carolina; his three sisters: Elsie Coleman and Jean (James) Murphy both from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Mona-Lisa Ashby of Charlotte, North Carolina. To carry on his memory, his ten children: Ilyse (Ty) Turner, Martin (Shanita) Bailey, Latoya Bailey of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Steve (Paula) Coleman of Taylor, Michigan, and Regina "Twiggy" Coleman of Freeport, New York,Lisa Parsons, Lamonte Covington, Stephen Covington, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Sharon Coleman and Angela Coleman of Kansas City, Missouri. Martin also leaves behind a host of grand and great-grandchildren.

In his later years, Marty gave his life to the Lord and became a Deacon at Second New Bethel Church. He was a loving man that was always playing jokes with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping in his RV with his wife and hosting family cookouts.

A Memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Thursday March 23, 2023 at Second New Bethel Baptist Church, 1900 New Walkertown Rd. Winston-Salem, NC
