Together with their new family Mary and her husband Lonnie founded Lonnie's Roofing Company of Winston Salem, North Carolina – a business that to this very day strongly serves the Triad Area 40 years and still counting. For over 50 years Mary was a "faithful" Tither, Member and Supporter of United Metropolitan Church, now known as United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church of Winston Salem, NC.

In early December 2019, Mary Carpenter took permanent residence at the Winston Salem, NC home of her oldest son Lonnie. It was on September 21, 2020 that Mrs. Mary Bethea Carpenter gained the reward of her lifelong service to God and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus.
