Matthew Emory "Latten" Latnel was born August 28, 1937 in Catawba County, NC to Willian Latten Sr and Elizabeth Scott Latten. He passed away peacefully September 15, 2023 in Atlanta, GA. His parents, 14 brothers and sisters, and his wife, Willie Mae McDonald Latten preceded him in death.

Surviving are two children, Synthia L. Carcedo of Hiram, GA and Matthew "Kim" Latten of Menifee, CA; three grandsons, Jason "Keisha" Walton, Justin Walton and De'Veon Latten; seven great grandchildren, Aiden, Laila, Harmony, Jabari, Alyssa, Chance and Cameron all of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Emma McGowan of Atlanta, GA and Josephine Latten of Jamaica, NY; sisters-in-law, Angela, Wanda, "Maryland" and "Ethel" all of North Carolina, and Brenda of New York; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday October 14, 2023 at Capernaum Church of Christ, 8806 Lasater Rd. Clemmons, NC 27012. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-11:00am at the church.
