Obituary

Michael Denorris Lindsay peacefully transitioned from this life to be with his Lord on July 22, 2020 at his home surrounded by family after an extended illness. He was born to Naomi Lindsay Ferguson Anderson and James Otto Lowery on March 23, 1952 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Michael was a lifelong resident of this great city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was a product of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and was a graduate of Atkins High School. He also completed an Associate degree from Forsyth Technical Community College majoring in Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanics. He retired from Forsyth County/ General Services after twenty-six years of dedicated service as HVAC mechanic. He was enlisted in the arm forces of the Navy Division of the United States with an honorable discharge. He was a dedicated christian of St. Philips Moravian church until his health failed. He loved music of all kinds and was an artisan of his craft in carpentry, electrical work and plumbing.

Michael met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Sales Johnson and was married to her on July 10, 1992. A blended family was formed from this union of Michael Denorris Lindsay, Jr.,Thomas Xavier Johnson, Jr. and Marcus Jerome Johnson. He was a devoted father and raised three fine gentlemen. He loved and cherished his family and was a true friend and enjoyed many friendships. He was a devoted son and brother always being supportive of his family both near and far.

He leaves behind family to cherish his memory ,a devoted wife and caregiver Carolyn Sales Johnson Lindsay of the home, a son that he loved and cherished with all his heart Michael Denorris Lindsay, Jr., of Columbia, South Carolina, two sons he reared and nurtured as his own Thomas and Marcus Johnson, caregiver, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His loving and devoted mother Naomi Lindsay Ferguson Anderson, of Hockessin, Delaware. A loving and devoted sister and caregiver Cheryl Donnie. Four brothers, Laurion, Lowery, Vernard Lowery, Desmond Lowery, and Elliott Lowery. Four Sisters, Undray (David) Rollinson, Karen (Richard) Peoples, Delphenia (Lee Otis) Washington, and Rosa Marie Jones, all of Winston-Salem. A loving sister-in-law and caregiver, Lisa Sales and Jada Sales niece and caregiver of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Michael was preceded in death by Daryl Lindsay, nephew, James Otto Lowery, father, Betty Stephens, sister, Cleophus L. Caesar, brother, Charles Stephens, brother-in law, and Margaret L. Sales, mother-in-law.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and support shown to us and our loved one from the Community Home Care & Hospice in the persons of Doreen Dalton, CNA, Kanesha Coleman, MSW Social Worker and Max Martinez, Registered Nurse. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the Union Baptist Church, Bishop Sir Walter Mack, Senior Pastor, and staff whose support helped to make Michael's Home going service a true Celebration of Life. His remains will lie in repose 12pm-6pm Wednesday, July 30, 2020 in Hooper Funeral Home.
