Mirian Louise Knox was born November 20, 1943 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County to the late James McCoy and Dorothy Louise Knox Nash.
Educated in the public schools, she was a 1961 graduate of Atkins High School. During those high school years, Ms. Knox joined Pleasant Union Primitive Baptist Church where she became president of the Junior Progressive Club. After high school, she pursued a business degree at Russell's Commercial School, and graduated in 1965. She soon became a secretary for Dr. Clark, one of the first Black physicians to serve East Winston.
Like so many African Americans of that era, she joined The Great Migration to New York, New York where she became an administrator for the New York Housing Authority, Manhattan location. Ms. Knox spent the better part of her adult life as a transplanted New Yorker and developed a love for the city.
Mirian was preceded in death by her devoted and loving grandmother who raised her along with her sister; Mrs. Jessie Knox and a devoted sister, Mrs. Faye Knox Williamson. She departed this life Tuesday November 25, 2025 at the Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a period of illness.
She leaves cherished memories to a sister, Dr. Willette Nash; one brother in-law, Pastor Tribut Williamson; her loving nieces and nephews; Ms. Vernon Peoples, Ms. Jana Minor-Oliver, Ms. Lissa Cheek, and Mr.Tribut (Kim) Williamson, Jr.; grand nieces and nephews: Mr. Vernon Richardson, Ms.Jana' Minor, Mr. Charles Minor, Jr., Mr, Brandon Davis, Mr. Bryan Davis, Mr. Kameron Oliver, and Ms. Carolyn Williamson; along with a host of sixteen great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday December 5, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:30am-11:00am at the funeral home Friday. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Her remains may be viewed Thursday December 4, 2025 from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
