Nathaniel Little,
Sr.
May 2, 1931 — Sep 24, 2025
Nathaniel Little Sr., 94, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025. He was born on May 2, 1931, in Winston-Salem, to his late parents, Charlie and Almira Little, and remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved.
Nathaniel grew up on Jackson Street and graduated from Atkins High School. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, receiving an honorable discharge after being stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.
In his working years, Nathaniel was employed with R.J. Reynolds, where he retired at the age of 55. A man of many passions, he was deeply devoted to sports. In his younger years, he played baseball with the Cleveland Sluggers. During the 1970s, he served as a softball umpire, and in the 1980s, he managed several softball teams. As he grew older, he especially enjoyed playing golf. He was also a dedicated fan of the San Francisco Giants and the Carolina Panthers, cheering for them faithfully over the years.
Nathaniel was a man of strong faith. He was a devoted member of the Baptist tradition and, throughout his life, worshiped at New Jerusalem, Church of the First Born, and First Assembly. His faith shaped the way he lived—he was a devoted husband, an excellent provider, and will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, and generosity.
Nathaniel is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Kiser Little; his children, Linda Cutler (late Franklin), Sharon Johnson (Milton), Sandra Ballentine (Bruce), Nathaniel Little Jr. (late Beverly), and Charles Tyrone Little (Andrea); and his sister, Patricia Picard. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren: Renee Hopkins (Andre), Sherry Lipscomb—who was a devoted caregiver to both her bonus grandmother Rebecca and her grandfather Nathaniel—Shon Lipscomb (Lucretia), Tameka Littlejohn (Wesley), Bobby Moody, Travis Cutler, Erica Walker, Kyla Stimpson, Kimberly Little, Christopher Little, Teramus Little, Christina Thomas (Isaiah), Marvin Little, and Myles Little. He also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and close family friends Brother Russell Shelton and his wife Elsie.
He was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Shirley Polite Little, with whom he shared many years of marriage and the blessing of raising their children; his daughter, Debra Little Stimpson (Joseph); his parents, Charlie and Almira Little; his brothers, James Little, Samuel Little, Alvin Little, and Leroy Little; and his sisters, Charlene Little Tillery and Geraldine Little Stimpson.
Nathaniel Little Sr.'s life was marked by quiet strength, kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to his family, faith, and love of sports. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
