Odell G. King, Jr. was born in Reidsville, North Carolina. He came to Winston-Salem with his adoptive parents, Odell and Rogene King. Odell graduated from Anderson Snior High School in 1965. After high school Odell enlisted in the US Army, where he served as an MP and fought in the Vietnam War, where they referred to him as "the big red one".  After his time in the military Odell returned to Winston Salem, NC, and started a career at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he retired after 36 years of service.

Odell was predeceased by his mother and father Odell and Rogene King.  He is survived by his children of Winston-Salem Cherise King, Martin King, and Rashawnda (Converse) Thomas. He has 4 grandchildren who he adored, big head Amauri Wright, little head Converse Thomas III, Bryson (BO) Thomas, and Danielle Thomas. A host of Cousin James King (Benny), Willie King (Gloria), Mary Willis, and son Walter. He had two very close friends, the Nichols brothers Bobby, Nick, and Charles.

Odell attended St. Andrews United Methodist Church under the leadership of Pastor Fomba Karva. Where he was a member of the trustee board, methodist men, senior choir, and the usher board. Odell was also a member of one of the finest semi-pro baseball teams in the southeast, the Winston Salem Indians, where he played 1st base for 14 years.

The family visitation will be held 11:30am Friday, Dec. 20th at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with a service celebrating his life following at 12pm.
