Mrs. Ollie M. Salley was born on May 3, 1937, to Thomas and Lucy Glenn Morgan in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is a product of Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools.
Mother Salley led a very full life and touched many people in so many ways. She had a diverse work career. She spent several years as a domestic worker with the Richard Stockton family; she worked in manufacturing at Burlington Industries; and her most rewarding work assignment was spent as a Teacher's Assistant with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System, where she was able to have a positive impact on the lives of young people.
Mother Salley was an active disciple of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist where she served as leader of the Mothers' Ministry. She started the Church Nursery when the church was located on Bowen Boulevard. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. In her youth she sang with the St. Matthew Gospel Singers. For many years she sang with the St. Stephen Spiritual and the Gospel Choirs. She found great joy singing for special occasions for friends and family.
Mother Salley departed this life Sunday March 15, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bennie Salley, Sr. and a daughter, Marilyn S. Davis.
She is survived by three daughters; Sylvia Clardy, Beverly Leak (Lesia Glymph) and Sharon Salley; one son, Thomas B. Salley, Jr.; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Betty M. Woods (Edward) and Priscilla M. Jackson, one brother-in-law, Ernest Salley, along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends and family.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday March 21, 2026 at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 noon at the church. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Walkertown, NC. Her remains may be viewed Friday from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
