Obituary

Patricia Gant Thombs was born to the late  Lollar M. Gant and the late John D. Gant in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on March 10, 1945.

She attended the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and graduated from John W. Paisley High School. Following high school graduation, she enrolled at North Carolina Central  University (NCCU) and earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Pat was recruited for employment by the United States Government while a student at NCCU. She worked in Washington, DC for several years, prior to a transfer to Winston-Salem. She was a dedicated government employee for 37 years prior to her retirement.

Sister Thombs was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She gave loyal service to the Board of Trustees, The Martha Missionary Group, Sunday School Class #6, and the Chancel Choir.  She was the exclusive Mount Zion Baptist Church Flower Club; and she was a former member of the Inspirational Choir.

Mrs. Thombs volunteered, alongside her husband, with the Society of Saint Andrew and Senior Services Meals-on-Wheels.

Sister Patricia Gant Thombs passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 5, 2022,  at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mrs. Willie Bell Morris.

The unspeakable joy that awaits her in heaven is the hope and promise of those who look forward to a reunion with her in eternity. Survivors include her devoted husband of 35 years, Lynwood Thombs; stepson, Lynwood Thombs, Jr.; two step grandchildren; her very dear cousins, Barbara  and Herma of Washington, DC; sisters and brother-in-law, Annie (Elmo) Lindsay, Reverend Albert (Pamela) Thombs, Reverend Paul (Virginia) Thombs, Michael (Linda) Thombs, Johnny (Betty) Thombs; Dr. Everette (Helen) Thombs, Zinnie (Eric) Sanders and Bobbie Thombs; many nieces and nephews and  extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday October 10, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm-2:00pm at the church.
