Phyllis Cassandra Grimsley Tomlinson, 72 of the Silver Chalice Community Homes in Winston-Salem peacefully departed this earth Tuesday February 20, 2024.
Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and a 1970 graduate of Atkins High School. She was a graduate of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. where she received her degree in Business Administration. Later in life she married Jimmy Tomlinson.
Phyllis loved spiritual dancing and loved being a servant of the Lord in Phillips Chapel Church in Winston-Salem until her health started failing.
Phyllis was a retired employee of Wake Forest Baptist where she worked for Dr. Sherrill and also retired from the Federal Government Veterans Administration Office. She then went on to do part-time work for Wake Forest Cafeteria.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hairston and Lois Grimsley DuBose; two siblings Harolyn Y. DuBose Stephens, and Fatheney J. DuBose; and nephew Germaine Stephens.
Phyllis leaves cherished memories to her longtime husband Jimmy Tomlinson; son Jarrell Tomlinson of the home; two stepsons Carlton of Charlotte N.C., and Scottie of Denver Colorado; her sister Addie Lora (Coco) DuBose Bell; nephew Reginald (Consuela) DuBose; two nieces Sasha DuBose, and Tomeka Ore; great nieces Navi' Parker, Reg'uela DuBose; great nephews Teddrick and Reginald DuBose Jr., special cousins Geraldine Lewis and Stacy, Jamal, all of Winston-Salem, Jerry Lewis of N.Y.C., and a devoted god sister Tonya Owens of Winston-Salem, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday February 27, 2024 at Phillips Chapel Baptist Church, 132 Glenn Avenue, Winston-Salem, N.C. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm -2pm Tuesday at the church. Her remains may be viewed Monday from 12pm-6pm at the funeral home.
