Obituary

Raymond Denard Moser, affectionately known as "Ray" to his friends and family, passed away on November 16, 2022, in Hagerstown, MD. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Maggie Moser, uncles Glenn Johnson, Rev. Sylvester Moser, Norman Moser, and James Moser, and an aunt Mary Wilson.

On April 4, 1967, in Winston Salem, NC, Raymond was born to Arthelia and Senior Master Sergeant (ret.) Donald Moser, Sr.  He grew up as a member of an Air Force military family who frequently moved to various places within the United States and abroad. He was a "classic" middle child who was unique in his thoughts, behavior, and in perspectives of life. He was an exemplary, loving, intuitive, supportive son and brother who served as a mediator, peacekeeper, musical and coolness expert, and comedian. His siblings lovingly dubbed him as "mama's favorite child" and "daddy's favorite military buddy." Raymond's love, laughter, and positive attitude crossed multiple generations in his family.

Raymond was formally educated in various places such as Indiana, North Dakota, and Guam. He was a proud 1985 graduate of Gosnell High School in Blytheville, Arkansas.  At Gosnell High, he participated in football, the Barbershop singers, and other activities. Raymond was well known and admired by his classmates, and he maintained friendships with them throughout the years thanks to social media.

Upon graduation, Raymond enlisted in the US Army and traveled frequently. During his time of service, he met and made many lifelong friends. Raymond was a Desert Storm Veteran, and he could count on his fellow veterans to support him when life became challenging. Raymond would often travel and visit his military friends throughout the country. After his military career, Raymond worked as a certified nursing assistant in various settings including the VA Hospital.

Raymond was known for his love of music and funny jokes that he shared with friends and family. He encouraged others by sharing life lessons that he learned and exhibited kindness, respect, and a quiet introspective demeanor wherever he would go. Raymond was a positive light that touched the lives of everyone he met and he will be missed dearly by all that knew him.

Raymond accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and attended New Jerusalem Baptist Church when he lived in Winston Salem, NC. In Matthew 11:28, it states "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." We are thankful to God that Raymond has entered peaceful rest.

Raymond is cherished and survived by his parents, Arthelia and SMSgt (ret.) Donald Moser, Sr.; a brother Donald Moser, Jr. (Marquie), a sister Elder Tabitha Moser; a daughter, Deanna Barnes (TX), whom he deeply loved and admired; maternal grandmother, Belma Dobson; aunts Janie Mae Brewton, Min. Carolyn Canty, and Regina (Wesley) Dobson Johnson Manns; an uncle Billy (Marjorie) Moser of Moreno Valley, CA; niece Averie Moser, nephews Theo Moser (Brittany) and Julius Evans (Latisha), great nephew Julius Evans, Jr., great niece Monet Evans, and a host of cousins, and friends.

Family visitation will be held 12:30pm Saturday, December 10th at Goodwill Baptist Church of Clemmons with funeral service following at 1pm. Interment: Tuesday December 13, 2022 at 10 am at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military rites.
