Obituary

Reverend Brenda G. Sales entered the presence of her Savior on the morning of March 10, 2026 at the age of 76.

Rev. Brenda Sales was born in this city on April 25, 1949, to Hayward and Anna Sales who have preceded her in death along with a grandson Lewun McKoy. She received her early education in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and graduated from Atkins High School with the Class of 1967. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She later received her Teacher's Certification from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and worked in the Special Education Department within the public-school systems of Forsyth and Rockingham counties.

She was a devoted member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church since 1954 and faithfully served in numerous ministries, including BTU, Girl Scouts, the children's choir, Sunday School, senior choir, gospel choir, praise team, spiritual choir, and the prison ministry. She was the first Evangelism Ministry leader instituting- under the Pastor's leadership: Intercessory prayer, prison volunteering, jail and nursing home services, and community outreach which included feeding and clothing the hungry – body and soul, adopting families for Christmas, knocking on doors, providing gift baskets to seniors, street ministry, and group visitations to the sick. She was a Bereavement Ministry Crisis Team member, Missionary circle member, Sunday School teacher, and Bible study teacher and more.

Throughout her life she loved recreational activities. She played horseshoes with a round‑house throw that couldn't be beaten. She was also a softball player until the age of 42, serving as her team's most valuable player as a left‑handed pitcher. She loved bowling as well, participating in many tournaments both in and out of town. She loved word games and playing spades and was very competitive. She acquired a love for reading, especially black history books.

Those who knew Brenda well, knew she had a sense of humor and loved making people laugh!

She leaves behind her most cherished possessions from God, her children, Meladie Sharie Mitchell, Lynwood B. Austin Jr. and Kimberly Austin (Anthony) Williams of Charlotte, NC including their children and her grandchildren Kiona L. Austin, Rodrigueze and Bryson Nowlin of Charlotte, NC, and Lenard Austin of Greensboro, NC. She also leaves to cherish her memory eight great-grandchildren – Bre'Ann, Lenard Jr., Lewun Jr., Layla, Noah, King, AYaNaH and MaSHaH.  She also leaves a loving sister, Bettie Ann Sales of Charlotte, NC; two brothers Haywood (D'tonya) Sales Jr. and Dennis Dexter (Linda) Sales of the city, and a host of other family members and especially her best friend Emma Smith.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 am Saturday March 14, 2026 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00am-11:30am at the church Saturday. Her remains may be viewed Friday March 13, 2026 from 12pm-5pm at the funeral home.
