Richard Lee Johnson was born September 30, 1950 and departed this life unexpectedly on Wednesday November 13, 2019 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born to the late Rev. Johnny and Ruthie Mae Johnson. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Jr.  He was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County public school system. He was an employee of IMC for 30 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Catherine B. Johnson; daughter, Kim Blackwell; son Joseph (Lucy) Blackwell; grandchildren, Enidia, Myyonna, and Zayyonna; three brothers, Zachariah, Leroy, and Earlie Johnson; two sisters, Racheal Pritchett, and Janice Morgan all of the city; mother-in-law. Clara Blackwell; brothers-in-law, Robert (Deb), Wendell (Ann), Tim (Sah), Rory(Felicia) Donald (Sheryl, Wayne (Annette); sisters-in-law,  Fannie Mae (Alphonso)  Lewis, Denise Wilson and Sharon Jennings; a dedicated niece, Rosetta(Sani) Sari; a dedicated nephew, Alvin (LaTasha) Johnson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great- great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019 at New Hope missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:00pm at the church.
