Obituary

Robert Leon Carter II, was born October 19, 1934 to the late Robert Carter Sr. and Minnie Elizabeth Plowden Carter in Winston-Salem, NC. Robert attended the 14th Street School and graduated from Atkins High School in 1954 " Go CAMELS". He was a professional painter by trade and was described as a modern Michaelangelo. His work transcended him throughout the city of Winston-Salem. He was employed 1975 by Schlitz Brewing Company, later Stroh's Brewing Company until the plant closed. Robert grew up in the Baptist church and converted to catholicism, attending St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church. He was instrumental  in painting and the upkeep of St. Benedict School as well as the church. He initiated a penny campaign drive for the construction of a ramp for wheelchairs and walkers at the church. He also remodeled part of the Our Lady of Fatima Chapel.  The list is endless of the various jobs he performed.

He was preceded in death by his  wife  of fifty-four years ,Margaret Carter, son, Robert Leon Carter III, daughter, Roberta Elaine Carter, and one sister, Dorothy Graham Wheeler .

Robert had the spirit of a servant's heart, feeding the hungry, and helping those in their time of need. His knowledge of Christ broadened his exposure to other ministries.

He departed this life  Thursday August 3, 2023 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife,  Jennifer Long Carter; children John Carter, Joan Carter Young  both of Winston-Salem, NC, Michael (Sharon)Carter of Sicklerville, NJ, Michelle Carter Johnson, Wendy Carter both of Winston-Salem, NC, Warren Carter of McDonough, GA, Kenneth Carter, Karen(Len) Parker all of Winston-Salem, NC and Stephen Carter of Greensboro, NC; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; siblings, Doris Williams, James (Lilerwease) Carter, Joseph(Mary) Carter of Raleigh, NC, Barbara Payne; brother-in-law, Wallace (Nellie) Crumblin of Pfafftown, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; other relatives and friends.

Robert Leon Carter II, will be greatly missed by all who knew him well.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Wednesday August 9, 2023 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 pm-2:30 pm at the funeral home Wednesday. Mr. Carter's remains may be viewed Tuesday August 8, 2023 from 12 pm-6 pm at the funeral home.
