Rodney James Roundtree, Sr. passed away quietly on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility after an extended illness. He was 72 years old.
Born in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina, on January 4, 1953, Rodney was the son of Samuel and Ruby Rutledge Roundtree. He was educated in the Forsyth County school system and graduated from Reynolds High School in 1970. He continued his studies at North Carolina Central University and Winston‑Salem State University, earning a B.S. in Business in 1974. Rodney had a long and dedicated career. He worked for R.J. Reynolds for 30 years. After retirement from R.J. Reynolds, he served in IT at N.C. A&T State University and concluded his professional career at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in 2020.
A devoted family man who enjoyed a quiet life, Rodney's favorite pastime was tennis. He also loved cruising, spending time on the beach, and building model airplanes, cars, and boats. He attended Fellowship Baptist Church and was of the Baptist faith.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ruby Roundtree; his brother, Donald Ray Roundtree; his paternal grandparents, Ray and Cora Martin; his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Bertha Rutledge; and his father‑ and mother‑in‑law, John Irwin and Florence Graves.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 39 years, Pam Graves Roundtree, of the home; three children — Rodney Roundtree, Jr. (Terri) of Edgewater, Maryland; Kasie Graves of Raleigh, NC; and Raye Morgan Roundtree of Kernersville, NC; and nine grandchildren — Jamison, Avery and Zoe Graves; Micah Roundtree; Taylor and Rylan Roundtree; Christian Young; Caris Young; and Ruby Roundtree. He is also survived by two sisters, Deborah Roundtree and Karen Roundtree, both of Winston‑Salem, NC; one brother, Professor Fred‑Rick Roundtree of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania; one uncle, Charlie Rutledge (Yvonne) of Buffalo, New York; five sisters‑in‑law — Melvine (Anthony) Grice of McLeansville, NC; Wanda (Herbert) Summers of McLeansville; Angela (Jerry) Graves of Gibsonville; Monica Jenkins of Raleigh; and Iris (Frank) Coleman of Gibsonville; and two brothers‑in‑law, John (Joyce) Graves of Reidsville and Aubrey of Gibsonville. He also leaves a lifelong friend, David Greene of Madison, NC; a God sister/cousin, Linda Redd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 22 at 12:00 noon at Hooper Funeral Home with Rev. Corey Graves officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank the staff at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist for their compassionate care.
