Ruby Monroe Woodward peacefully departed this life on September 3, 2023.  She was born on October 13, 1924 in McColl, South Carolina to the late Beulah and Casper Monroe.  She graduated from Atkins High School in 1942 and Kate Bitting Reynolds School of Nursing in1946.

Ruby was a registered nurse for over 40 years with a specialty in pediatrics. She worked at Reidsville Hospital in Reidsville, NC where she was the hospital's first African American nurse.  She later worked at Kate Bitting Reynolds Hospital as pediatric department supervisor and as a teacher at Kate Bitting Reynolds School of Nursing. Ruby was one of the first Black nurses in a supervisory position at Forsyth Hospital. She ended her career as Assistant Director of Nursing at Reynolds Health Center.

Ruby Woodward was a charter member of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, served as church trustee and was a beloved Mother of the Church.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ernest Woodward, Jr. She is survived by daughters, Rosalyn Woodward Pelles and Rhonda Woodward-Barnes. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a niece, nephews, and other relatives.

A Jubilee Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 16 at 6 PM at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 17 at 2 PM at Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 3010 Carver School Road, Winston-Salem, NC.  The entombment will follow on Monday, September 18, 1:00 PM at Garden of Memory Cemetery, 5676 Old Walkertown Rd., Walkertown, North Carolina.
