Obituary

Mr. Selvin Lemar Wright aka "Joey" was born to Tonya Lynette Bennett and the late Antione Cureton on August 29, 1996. Selvin transitioned from this life into eternity on Tuesday night, November 5, 2024.

Selvin grew up surrounded by a very large, close knit and loving family along with a community of close friends. He attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and was a 2014 graduate from Glenn High School .

Selvin's family was blessed to be gifted with phenomenal musical abilities. He too inherited those musical genes as well. He created, wrote and recorded his music. His musical talents also spanned into the rap music arena. This young man was very different, yet astoundlingly unique. He was actually "an old soul".

At any given time, Selvin could be heard encouraging someone, advising others and also championing someone else. He found time to be that listening ear. The advice and counsel he shared can be considered to be of the caliber that would be expected to come from someone that was much older and experienced. He was patient and intentional. He wasn't a person that ignored telephone call, emails, text messages, doorbells nor knocks on the door. He had a ready ear to listen to the concerns of others, their ideas and their situations.

He had fallen head over heels in love with Jai Lamar and Jace Lamir, his 1 year old twin sons. He was an exceptional father, son, grandson, nephew, cousin/brother, fiancé and friend.
Although this amazing young man has been called away so soon, he has left a legacy.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Bennett and his cousin/brother, Sha'quan Chambers.

Left to celebrate his life and forever embrace his loving memories until that great reunion day are his twin sons, Jai Lamar & Jace Lamir; his fiancé Nijah Yvette Downing; his mother Tonya Lynette Bennett (James); his maternal grandparents, LeeArlis (Richard) Archie and Vernon A. Jones; his paternal grandparents, Toni (Derrick) Fair; aunts, Sheria K. Chambers, Angelique Woods; uncles, Bobby (Kendra) Chambers, Ricardo Howell, Jerod and Rasheed; great aunts; Sarah Bridges, Loretta, Wilhemina, Margaret and Michelle; great uncles, McArthur, Ronald(Sylvia), Carlton, Selwyn, Kenny; auntie/cousin, Daphne(Mark) Floyd and Carolyn(Anthony) Belts; cousin/sister. Khanaija; cousin/brothers, Jaboree, Shon"Bro", Jeremy, Trey; two bonus siblings, Kierra and James Black Jr; godmother, Juanita Coles and a host of other precious relatives and dear friends.

A celebration of his life will be held  Sunday November 17, 2024 at 12:30pm in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home.
