Shelia A.
Clark
Apr 17, 1967 — Jan 10, 2021
Shelia Angela Clark, affectionately referred to as "Boo Boo" by her loving husband, returned to her heavenly home on January 10th, 2021, after a brave battle with breast cancer.
Shelia was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina to the late Edna Suggs on April 17, 1967. As a child, Shelia attended Kinston High School and graduated in the class of 1986. Some time afterwards, she met and married the love of her life, Hiwathia Rena Clark, jokingly referred to as "Tony" by his in-laws, on April 25th, 1992. Together, they created a family of five and traveled the world to places including, but not limited to, Michigan, California, Japan, and Hawaii. In addition to caring for her family, Shelia grew professionally by earning an Associate's Degree in Medical Billing and Coding from Forsyth Technical Community College, where she later worked as an Advisor in the Financial Aid Office.
Shelia's strength and resilience blossomed during her time as a Marine spouse when she was responsible for the care of her three children during Hiwathia's multiple military deployments and engagements. It is this same strength and resilience that carried her through her battle with cancer. Shelia was an advocate. She fundraised for and actively participated in annual breast cancer walks equipped with her family, a "Team Boo Boo" T-shirt, and a pair of her favorite shoes, Nike Air Max sneakers. Shelia will be remembered not only for her fashionable shoe collection, but for her beautiful smile and dimples, her charming and trustworthy personality, and her ability to host the most memorable family gatherings.
Shelia was blessed with a loving and caring family. Shelia is survived by her devoted husband, Hiwathia Rena Clark of Kernersville, NC, by way of Natchez, MS, and three amazing children, Lenita Shanae Harris (Daniel Harris) of Pearl, MS; Derenik Antonio Clark of Kernersville, NC; and Supriya Rena Clark of Kernersville, NC. She is also survived by her five siblings, Carol Jean Suggs of Kinston, NC; Helena Suggs Gray (Donald Lee Gray) of La Grange, NC; Terence Lofell Suggs of Atlanta, GA; Jerome Keith Suggs of Kinston, NC; and Christopher Edwards of Kinston, NC. Shelia was a fun-loving and compassionate aunt. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews, Ciara Suggs of Kinston, NC; Priscilla Johnson (Clifton Johnson) of Fayetteville, NC; Helena Suggs of Kinston, NC; Amber Gray of Baltimore, MD; Rachel Suggs, Darrius Suggs, and Destani Suggs of Seattle, WA; Diamond Swinson and Rihanna Moore of Kinston, NC; and Sekayi Edwards and Mariah Hutchins of Kinston, NC. Shelia also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews, godchildren, and her best friend, Tisha Suggs of Ayden, NC, to remember her fondly as well. In Heaven, she joins her mother, Edna Suggs, her grandparents, Mary and George Suggs, and several aunts and uncles.
