Obituary

On Wednesday, the 15 th day of March 2023,  a loving husband, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend departed this life. Sherman was born September 1, 1954, to Ciesta Funderburk and the late Roy Heath Funderburk.

Sherman also known as "Pokey" was well-loved by all who knew him. Not only was he loved, but he showed the same love, kindness, and humbleness to others. He enjoyed and loved watching his westerns, maintaining his home, and sharing time with his family as a whole.

He was a retiree of Wake Forest University School of Law in custodial management, where he work for 20+ years. Sherman knew his way around the kitchen and was famous for his dirty rice and dressing during the holidays. He was also a veteran serving in the National Guard, the US Army, & Army Reserves. He will truly be missed.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Cindy Funderburk, and son Melvin Brunt Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Funderburk of the home; mother Ciesta Funderburk; sisters Audrey, Sylvia, and Regina Funderburk; brothers Keith and Reginald Funderburk; grandchildren Quinton Byers, Chevez and Chantika Brunt. He also leaves behind a host of in-laws, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Thursday March 23, 2023 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30am-12:00pm at the funeral home. His remains may be viewed Wednesday from 12pm-6pm at the funeral home
