Mr. Sherman McLendon, son of the late Will and Sallie McLendon was born on May 1, 1932 in Norwood, North Carolina. He was the baby of seven siblings. Sherman is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

He graduated from Atkins High School. He was a former member of Saint Andrews Methodist Church. He served in the Army in the Korean War and received an honorable discharge along with good conduct, Korean service, National Defense and US service medals.

Down through the years Sherman worked at Kate Bitting Hospital, Export, Reynolds Tobacco and Piedmont Airlines, where he retired with 26 years of service and never missed a day of work in Building and Maintenance/Shipping and Receiving on Liberty Street. He was a certified mechanic and was known as "Motor", "Mac" or "Stack of Dollars" by former friends and co-workers.

He left this life, for everlasting life on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehab after an extended illness. He is survived by his loving, loyal wife of 64 years, Hattie Burns McLendon. His children: Donald R. McLendon, Nanette A. McLendon, Cynthia A. McLendon, and Lawrence Burns (Cardeas). Eleven grandchildren known as "The Crew": Brittany Eccles, Bradley Eccles, Briann Eccles, J'Son Hughes, Donald Branson, Sheena McLendon and Jasmin Frazier, Anthony Burns, Dementrus Burns, Lashuna Burns, and Sukim Terry (Sissy). Twelve great grandchildren. A loving and dedicated niece Daisy Herring and her family. Four sister-in-laws, Willie Ann Simmons (Lucius), Clatis Freeman (Leon), Beverly Woods (Michael), Lesslie Reynolds (William) and other extended family members.

The family will receive friends 11:30am Tuesday, July 6, 2021 in the Hooper Funeral Home chapel with a service of memory following at 12 Noon.
