Ms. Shirley Ann Whitley Conner was born December 27, 1948 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Marie W. Thomas. She was a graduate of Carver High School and later graduated from Stratford Career Institution with a diploma in Floral Designs.

Shirley worked for twenty one years at AT&T (formerly Southwestern Bell) and later went on to retire from Hanes Brands Inc. In the community, she faithfully volunteered at the Bethesda Center for the Homeless until her health decline would no longer allow.

Shirley loved arts and crafts especially floral designs, she could take any floral arrangement you have and with a touch of her magic create something special. Shirley loved her church, Mt. Calvary Holy Church, where she was taught the Word of God and displayed a servant's heart in all that she did. Her devotion to God and His work was always on display and you couldn't talk to her for five minutes without Jesus entering the conversation.

Unfortunately, Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Karin Conner, who transitioned on September 27, 2014, but is survived by Ted Jr. (Sharon) Conner, Curtis (Michelle) Conner and Cheryl Conner; Grandchildren: Tyeshail (Kenny) Miller, Latisha (Julius) Evans, Michael Conner, Cameron Conner, Triana Trower, and Elijah Bailey; Great grands: Jodyn Miller, Julius Evans Jr, Myah Miller, Monet Evans and Grayson Miller; Sisters: Mary Cates, Doris Cribbs; Brothers: James (Linda) Whitley, Howard (Jermecia) Garner, Gary Garner, Henry (Thomasine) Garner, Bishop Sherman Garner, Tony (Patricia) Garner, Pastor Terry (Elouise) Garner, Phelone (Janet) Garner, Michael Garner, Dennis Lucas, Samuel Lucas, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ms. Conner's remains will lie in repose 12pm until 6pm Monday, April 27, 2020 at Hooper Funeral Home.
