Silas Pressley
Sr.
May 2, 1935 — Nov 19, 2025
Mr. Silas Pressley Sr. was born on May 2, 1935 to Mr. Henry Pressley and Mrs. Essie Pressley. He was born in the family home in Mullins South Carolina.Silas grew up working in the tobacco fields of the deep south of Mullins South Carolina and He attended Palmetto High school which is called Mullins High school today.
Then in October 1955 at the tender age of 19 years old, Silas decided he had seen and worked enough in the tobacco fields. Silas, informed his parents that he was heading north to start a new life and to make a better life for himself. This decision took him north to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Upon arriving in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, his luck would change instantly. He found a job at the Robert E. Lee hotel. Silas would work at the hotel for the next 15 years in various positions. He received promotions every 2 years while at the hotel.
While in his last year of working at the hotel, good fortune would find him once again. Silas met the 16th Mayor of Winston-Salem at that time who was Mayor Wayne Corpening. The Mayor was so impressed with Silas work ethic and the way he treated the Mayor and his guest that he told Silas to come to see him the next day. After meeting with the Mayor the next day, the Mayor told him to go see the hiring manager at the M C Benton Convention center. Upon meeting with the hiring manager, Silas was hired that day and remained an employee of the M C Benton Convention Center for the next 40 Years.
Silas would go on to be honored with many awards and special recognition while employed at the convention center. His most notable accomplishment was that in forty years employed he never missed a day of work. Silas was offered and accepted many positions and promotions but remained devoted to being the event set-up supervisor. Silas performed his duties with such dedication that all who had events at the convention center would request that Silas be the set-up host or they would not book the event.During his time, he had the privilege of meeting many dignitaries such as the governor of North Carolina, as well as Both United States Senators and a host of North Carolina Senate and House of representative members.
However, none of these accomplishments could compare to that wonderful day in 1955 when he met his bride to be Ms. Annie Bell Carson Bush. They would date for 2 years and on November 5, 1957 they would be married by the right Reverend Bridges in front of family and friends. From this union 6 children were born, Silas Pressley Jr, Ronnie, Queen, Wayne, Carlton and the baby girl Princess.
Silas would often say he would only have 1 wife and this remained true for all the days of his life. Mrs. Annie Bell would precede him in death and Silas lived the rest of his days honoring his commitment to having only one wife. Although his life has ended his legacy through his 6 children will live on forever. May the work I have done speak for me. AMEN.
He leaves to cherish his memory, six children: Silas (Vanessa), Queen, Ronnie (Carol), Wayne, Carlton (Monique) and Princess. 11 grandchildren: Montralla Pressley, Kevin Pressley, Kedric Pressley, Karrem Woods, Kennedy Edwards, Carlton Pressley, Jr., Daniel Pressley, Grace Pressley, Ronnie Peoples, Jr., Ronnie Peoples-III, and Ericka Peoples.
