M s. Sophia Ann Davis  Mason age 71, passed away Sunday July 20, 2025. She was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 3, 1953 to Alice Davis and William Petty. Sophia was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamika Mason; sister, Dorothy Moore and brother, Ron Lee Bankhead.

Sophia started working at Pellcare as a CNA in 1973. She retired in 1991. She was a woman that cared for family, especially her daughters and grandchildren. Sophia was known for her laughter and caring way. She was always helping others and opening her home to anyone in need. She did not take no mess from nobody!  In the words of Dejuan aka Pooh, she was a stone cold Gangsta. She was also the best auntie in the whole wide world. Her nieces and nephews NEVER did anything wrong, in her eyes. Sophia helped raise many of her cousins, nieces and nephews. You could come to her about anything and she would never turn her back on you. Even in her last days she had a listening ear. Sophia loved to have cookouts and family gatherings. Well, let us just say she loved to eat!

She leaves behind a daughter, Deshonta Mason; grandchildren, Charles Mason Jr., Christopher Mason, Deshawn Mason, Dejuan Mason, Keyanus Mason and Kentrell Mason; three great grandchildren; sisters, Dianne Porter, Beverly Petty, Annette Petty and Jeanette Petty; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sophia, now that you have departed from us you will be truly missed, but NEVER forgotten. So Auntie take your rest. No pain or suffering. You have any your race and now you will reap your reward, unit we meet again. WE LOVE YOU!

A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday July 31, 2025 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home.
