Mrs. Susannah Nelson Sheppard was born April 27, 1929 in Darlington South Carolina to the late Mr. Bill and Mrs. Charity Nelson. She was blessed to recently celebrate her 93 ^rd birthday. On June 19, 2022 at the Oaks at Forsyth, Winston-Salem, NC, she received her gift of eternal life.

In her youth she attended Atkins High School. She later married her childhood sweetheart, Mr. Charlie Marshall Sheppard in 1951 and they had been married 71 years before she departed this life. In this union they had 8 beautiful children. Mrs. Sheppard was a devoted and loving house wife, loved to cook, and loved planting her own flowers while her health permitted it, having a beautiful rose garden that still blooms today. She also loved to sing and make people laugh. Mrs. Sheppard joined the Church of God In Christ under Reverend James A. Coleman in the early 1950s. Later in life she became a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. Donald Salley, Sr. and Pastor Dennis Leach where she was member of the Missionary Department.

She was preceded in death by one son, Derwin Sheppard; two daughters, Audrey Cockerham and Juanita Coleman; and 5 brothers and a sister.

She leaves to cherish fond memories her husband, Mr. Charlie Marshall Sheppard of the home; children Charlie, Jr. (Pat) Sheppard, Pastor Wanda Walker, Lillian (Pastor Gary) Walker, Timothy Sheppard of the home, and Susan Sheppard; a devoted grandson, Waddell Sheppard, Memphis, TN; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie McQueen and Mrs. Mary Fisher, both of the city; 19 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. The family will receive friends 10am Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 11am. Her remains will lie in repose 12pm-6pm Friday, June 24, 2022 at Hooper Funeral Home.
