Obituary

Mr. Ulysses Hunter Sr.  was born in Timmonsville, S.C to the late Leola Wilson and raised by his grandmother Mary Hunter .

Ulysses is a graduate of Atkins High School class of 1958 and during his years there he met the love of his life, Nancy Hunter, at the sock-hop where they danced the night away.  For sixty-one years they loved, supported and nurtured each other.

Ulysses Hunter retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after thirty-three years of service as a Supervisor in the air conditioning department. Outside of his paid career Ulysses spent many years developing and nurturing the youth of the Winston-Salem Tiny Indians where he served as the Equipment Manager, Field Manager and a two term President. Ulysses earned the Northwest Midget Football League Volunteer of the Year and Regional Volunteer of the Year in 2005. When he made the decision to pass the torch from the Tiny Indians he then picked up the torch as a member of the Trustee Board at St. Andrews United Methodist Church.

Ulysses was known as "Sees (short for Ulysses), Daddy, Gator, Brown Sugar, Granddaddy and Papa. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of sixty-one years, Nancy Hunter, three sisters, one brother, four children; Pamela Hunter, Ulysses Hunter Jr., Jeffrey Hunter (Renee) and Donna Eaton (Christopher). Eight Grandchildren; Nykhia Hunter, Jessica Hunter, Ulissea Hunter, Gwendolyn Hunter, Thomas Hunter (Blair), Joshua Jefferson, Christina Eaton, and Kevon Bannerman. Ten great-grandchildren and a host of beloved family members in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York and North Carolina.

The family will receive family and friends at St. Andrews United Methodist Church on Saturday July 17, 2021 from 12:00 pm –12:30 pm and services will begin at 12:30 pm.
