After keeping the faith and fighting the good fight, Elder Wesley Clowers Sr., 82, of Winston-Salem, NC, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on May 08, 2023. Elder Clowers was born on July 26, 1940, to Robert Clowers Sr., and Willie Mae Clowers, of Macon Georgia. He was the youngest son and number seventeen of the eighteen children in a large loving family. An adoring husband, devoted father, caring grandfather, a faithful church member, and fervent community advocate, Elder Clowers will be greatly missed.
Wesley Clowers Sr., retired from R J Reynolds Tobacco Co., in 2005. He was a skilled welder as well as an entrepreneur. Elder Clowers co-founded several businesses throughout his career including a partnership in several variety stores located in Winston-Salem during the 1990's. As an avid gardener, Elder Clowers ran a successful fresh vegetable stand on Waughtown Street for several years. Many community members fondly remember him as co-owner of Rockford Street Daycare and Kitty's Daycare.
Elder Wesley Clowers' love for God and for the Word of God lead him to pursue deeper depths of knowledge and understanding of The Word of God by attending Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, where he earned an associate degree in theology and divinity. Elder Clowers served faithfully at Christ Rescue Temple Apostolic Church under the leadership of Bishop Clive C. Davis. As a servant-leader, Elder Clowers preached to the residents at Golden Lamb Rest Home every Sunday morning before 10 am Worship service at CRT. He was also an integral part of the prayer ministry at Christ Rescue Temple Apostolic Church.
Wesley Clowers Sr. is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Willie Mae Clowers, brothers Robert, Ezelle, John Jr., John Henry, Larry Jackson, Willie Miller, Richard, Robert Clowers Jr., Archie Lee, and three brothers whose names are unknown. He was also predeceased by sisters Mary, Janice, and two additional sisters whose names are unknown. Also, preceding him in death is his first wife Catherine Atkins Clowers.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving wife of over twenty-five years, Pauline Perry Clowers, son Wesley Clowers Jr., (Tamara), Teresa Miller, and Tammy Gladden (Samuel), his stepchildren Deborah Adams, Renette Perry Clark, and Derrick Perry. He was grandfather by birth to Malcom Tobios Clowers, Katherine Taylor Gladden, and Victoria Taylor Gladden, and through marriage to Irwin Rogers II, Nickolas Adams, Reginald Johnson, Jerry, and Regina Perry; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to wish Elder Wesley Clowers a final farewell during the viewing Sunday, May 14 th , 2023, at Hoopers Funeral Home 1415 14 th St NE, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, between the hours of 1pm-6pm. The homecoming celebration for Elder Clowers will be held Monday, May 15 th , 2023, at 11:30 am. You may visit with the family prior to services between 11:00 am- 11:30 am. Entombment will be held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens
