Ms. Willie Mae Gunter Lyles, 88, departed this life on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born on August 26, 1937, in Abbeville, South Carolina, to the late Robert Jackson and Lillie Foster Gunter.

 As their only child, she was raised with strong values that she carried throughout her life.Ms. Lyles spent most of her life as a resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she became known and loved by many throughout the community. She was employed as a retail specialist with several department stores over the years and later retired from Regency Apartments, where she faithfully served as a custodian.

A lifelong and devoted Christian, Ms. Lyles was a faithful member of John Wesley AME Zion Church. Her faith was a guiding force in her life and was reflected in her love for others and her commitment to service. She was also active in her community as a member of American Legion Post 220.Ms. Lyles was known for her outgoing spirit and outspoken personality. She never met a stranger and brought warmth, laughter, and honesty to those around her. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as "MawMaw," a name that reflected the love and comfort she gave so freely. Her presence, wisdom, and vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves cherished memories to her children; Velma( Rev Ronald) Fluitt, and Razzanell Teft Lyles, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Terrick Teft Mangle and Ranisha Venice Mangle; three great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by those loved ones who welcomed her into eternal rest.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon prior to the service. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
