Willie Ann Burns Simmons , fondly known as Ann, passed away on August 13, 2026, in Winston-Salem, NC. Born on February 27, 1942, in South Carolina to Glendola Burns and John Williams Burns Sr., she was a cherished member of her family and community.

Ann spent her career as a processor at Reynolds Tobacco Company and was a devoted member of Union Chapel Baptist Church under Pastor Konnie Robinson. Her love for the beach and dedication to family were central to her life.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Lucius H. Simmons Sr., and her children, Patricia Ann Simmons, Lucius H. Simmons Jr. (Christine), and Anthony Simmons (Kimberly). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Natasha Simmons, Felecia Simmons, Markeesha Simmons Pearson, Alicia Simmons Wellman, Lucius H. Simmons III, Kevan Mitchell, Amber Simmons Alexander (Kevin), Jayda Simmons, and Anthony Simmons II; along with her great-grandchildren: Taiquir Simmons, Naija Reyes, Amira Wellman, Lucius Simmons IV, Keane Hewitt, Rhamonia Pearson, Antwea Simmons, Jayden K., and Baby Boy Simmons; and her great-great-grandchildren Mharli Simmons and Kheng Simmons.

Ann was predeceased by her siblings Hattie Burns McLendon, Lula Mae Starks, John William Jr., Mattie Lee Burns, Clatis Freeman, Katherine Burns, Ronald Burns, Donald Burns, Steve Burns, Presley Burns, Walter Carter, and Beverly Burns Woods. She leaves behind her sister Lesslie Burns Reynolds and numerous nieces and nephews.

Remembered for her inner beauty, wisdom, kindness, and unwavering faith, Ann ensured her family was well cared for and encouraged them to serve the Lord. Deeply respected by all who knew her, she touched many lives with her encouraging words.Her wisdom was unmatched, and she was respected by the community.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all who offered prayers and support during these challenging times, including family, near and far, church members, medical staff, friends, and those who were not familiar with her personally but interceded for the family while many decisions were being made. We are truly grateful for your intercession, because sometimes it was not easy. Your kindness has been invaluable and we send peace and blessings to you all.

A celebration of her life will be held at 12 noon Monday August 24, 2026 in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:30am-12 noon prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. Her remains may be viewed Sunday August 23, 2026 from 12-5pm at the funeral home.
