Mr . Robert Hester "Jolly Green Giant" Edwards, Sr., also known to his immediate family as "Jim", formerly of 1345 Jonestown Rd, Winston-Salem, NC, was born March 15, 1940, in Elbert, West Virginia to the late Hazel Edwards and Theodore Connor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Carl Edwards. Robert departed this life Friday afternoon, July 8, 2016 at Novant Health Palliative Care.

Robert was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church Roaring River, NC . He was a retired employee of the City of Winston-Salem, Public Works Division.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Edwards, Winston-Salem, NC; three daughters, Valerie Moore, Phyllis Booker, and Linda Chisom (Carlton) , all of Winston-Salem, NC; two sons, Robert Hester Edwards, Jr. (Dorsel) and Vernon Spurgeon, all of Winston - Salem, NC ; two sisters, Delores Edwards, Winston-Salem , NC and Gail Williams (Randy) , Cleveland, OH; one brother-in-law, Elwood Self, Winston-Salem, NC; one sister-in-law, Joan Douthit, Winston-Salem, NC; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren ; nieces, nephews , a host of other relatives and friends including a dedicated friend, John Davenport .

The family will receive friends 11:30am Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the Hooper Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services following at 12 Noon.
