A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted." ~Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 On June 10, 2011, heaven's doors opened and the spirit of Kinard Wesley Cheeks returned to our Lord. "Ken" as known by family and friends, was born on July 2, 1988 in Winston-Salem, NC, to Michael Kinard and Allison McDowell Cheeks. Educated in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School System, Ken graduated from North Forsyth High School, Class of 2006. He was currently employed with Metric Security. With a big heart and bubbling personality, Ken met no strangers; which lead to many friendships. He was a family-oriented person who loved and was committed to his two sons. He was not only cherished by his devote family, but by his community. Ken was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles Sr. and JoAnn Robinson Cheeks. Left to treasure his memories are his father Michael Cheeks of Winston-Salem, NC, his mother Allison Cheeks (Dennis Speaks) of Winston-Salem, NC; two sons Bryce Wilson and Kaleb Cheeks; a grandmother Mary R.McDowell of Winston-Salem, NC; a grandfather Wesley A. Gordan of Gastonia, NC, one brother Michael Lewis (Naima Rorie) of Durham, NC; a nephew Ayinde Rorie; 5 aunts Eddrie Ratley of Winston-Salem, NC, Charlene (Robert) Brown-Farris of Winston-Salem, NC, Alfreda (Brian) Wright of Winston-Salem, NC, Debra (Edward) Cession of Greensboro, NC, Cherri Saunders of Lexington, NC; 5 uncles Jeff McDowell, Clyde (Cynthia) McDowell, Charles (Betty) Cheeks Jr., Norris (Valerie) Cheeks, and Joseph Cheeks, all of Winston-Salem, NC; a great-uncle Booker T. Guthrie; a host of loving cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Friday June 17, 2017 1:00 pm at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:00pm at the church Friday.
